Environmental
and Energy Study
Institute (EESI)

As the communications intern at EESI, one of my responsibilities was to write articles on environmental issues that interested me. In order to make the articles non-biased and factual, I used sources like National Geographic, NOAA, EPA, NPR, and USGS. These articles were reviewed by the nonprofit and posted on their website for public consumption. Please take a read!

As the Communications Intern, it was my duty to run the Twitter account. My Twitter responsibilities were to cover upcoming EESI events, articles and fact sheets on the website, and positive environmental and energy news. Throughout my two months at EESI, I created 119,000 impressions on their Twitter account. Some impressions were from Congressman Paul Tonko and Union of Concerned Scientists. If you click the button below, it will open an excel sheet containing the Twitter analytics.

I collaborated with the Director of Development for Global Giving Day and created a flyer on InDesign that was sent to stakeholders. Click the button above to view the graphic!

The Environmental and Energy Study Institute's On-Bill Financing project is an initiative that aims to help families reduce energy use, cut energy bills, and improve home comfort.  The utility or partner organization pays the upfront costs for home energy upgrades and the loan is paid back through the recipient's utility bill. Along with designing the Minnesota Fair Ad shown in the button above, I did various other communication efforts for this project shown below.

I assisted The Environmental and Energy Study Institute in putting on the 20th Annual D.C. Renewable Energy Energy Efficiency EXPO. The EXPO included 40 businesses, trade associations, and government agencies to showcase renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. Some of these organizations included Carnegie Mellon University, USGS, Phillips Lighting, and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy. The various technologies showcased have a significant impact on business development and job creation in the manufacturing, transmission, power, transportation, and building sectors.

Throughout the event, there were three Congressional speakers, Senator Edward J Markey (MA), Representative Ryan Costello (PA), and Representative Paul D. Tonko (NY). There were 8 panels for discussions throughout the day on topics like grid storage, energy efficient buildings, biosolutions and different forms of renewable energy.

As the communications intern, it was my responsibility to facilitate the operation of the event and various communication tasks preceding the event including Hill drops and phone calls. I created posts to generate excitement for the event and designed organizational graphics for the running of the EXPO. I gained experience with video recording and iMovie in order to create an overview video of the EXPO.

Communication

EESI puts on Congressional briefings multiple times a month in attempts to educate Congress and Congressional offices on facts. The briefing topics range from news in the renewable energy industry to the implications of climate change. In order to be more strategic for future briefings, I created a visual analysis of the headcount, live cast and youtube views of the 2012-2017 briefings. Click on the button above to view the briefing analysis.

Each year, EESI puts out an annual report for the board members to showcase the progress and changes the organization went in that past year. I was in charge of creating/updating the 2016 Annual Report. While Annual Reports remain internally, in the button above I attached the cover graphic I created for the report.
